It’s our duty as a health care provider to make sure our employees’ lives and careers are as healthy as our patients. Even though Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is known for innovation and constantly pushing the envelope, our best assets are already here. It’s our people that show the best we have to offer.
The unique way our employees showcase that concept varies on an individual basis. However, no matter where you come from, you have the opportunity to learn directly from industry leaders within our walls. With all that support, it won’t be long before you see yourself as a leader.
"I’ve had a number of positions here: ward clerk, nurse, RN, and now VP of Chief Ethics and Compliance. Nicklaus Children’s allowed me to get my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in addition to my many roles; they’ve really worked with me. But honestly, the other advantage that sometimes people don‘t recognize is that there are many, many opportunities within a hospital. We’re known for promoting from within, and I’m an example of that."
But you don’t have to have such a long career with us to see real progress in your career. Brian Patrick Guro, our Program Operations Leader, has been with us for just four years, and he’s already seen his own development. The reason for that? The brilliant people he works alongside.
"I’ve been very lucky to have good mentors and knowledgeable people who have guided me. If there are things that pop up, there’s an open-door policy—I don’t hesitate to ask for help. Our team also provides great opportunities for employees that are seeking development for themselves. There are a number of programs that can help them exceed their career goals, and I’ve seen that firsthand."
To grow together, we must work together. As soon as you walk into one of Nicklaus Children’s facilities, you see the solidarity and teamwork that we’re known for all across the world.
“I had a ‘buddy’ when I was transitioning into my role,” Catherine Del Toro pointed out. “The buddy was another Nicklaus Children’s employee who guided me throughout the process—she still does, actually, because we’ve still kept in touch all these years.”
It’s people like Catherine’s buddy that have helped her grow from a Rehab Coordinator to a Patient Access Coordinator in such a short time period. Through learning at the right hand from our experienced pros, we’re able to equip our employees with realistic knowledge of what their job entails and how they fit into our system as a whole. We’re all in this together!
That’s why we emphasize growing together. Health care as a career can be demanding and stressful, but when you work with people who understand and support you, it can be smooth sailing. Visit our open positions and see if you have what it takes to grow with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
