Outreach Associate - Research (Full Time, Day shift)

Job Summary

Responsible for developing and coordinating the community outreach, marketing, and educational materials/activities for the Center for Precision Medicine and Research Institute teams. Develops and delivers culturally appropriate lay and technical content to build health literacy, competency, and awareness about research, genetics, precision medicine, and related programs in the patient and provider populations. Responsible for outreach to diverse communities within South Florida, including Hispanic/Latinx, Black, and Jewish populations.

Job Specific Duties

  • Ensures effective planning and organization of community outreach efforts.
  • Maintains active social media, websites, and other communications with input from interdisciplinary team.
  • Works with the Center for Precision Medicine, Research Education team, and Research Institute to support in-house and external community engagement initiatives that increase awareness of these programs.
  • Identifies programmatic activity opportunities to include in the calendar and coordinates logistics/operations once activities are identified.
  • Works closely with departments’ leadership and marketing team to create programmatic materials, forms, literature, and advertisements.
  • Develops and delivers culturally appropriate lay and technical content to build health literacy, competency, and awareness.
  • Serves as the liaison with marketing team and coordinates follow up activities.
  • Writes and edits reports and press releases.
  • As part of the interdisciplinary team, presents at the community live events.
  • Manages design, printing, and inventory of marketing and outreach materials.
  • Plans and makes purchases, maintains progress tracking, and ensures outreach expenses do not exceed the budget.
  • Creates and distributes meeting agendas and minutes as needed.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's Degree in public health, communications, or other relevant field
  • 2-4 years of experience in community outreach, program administration, or project coordination and management that includes components of science, medicine, marketing, and social media

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent writing skills including representing scientific or medical concepts for a general audience.
  • Cultural competency in working with the diverse populations of South Florida including Hispanic/Latinx, Black, and Jewish, populations.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience educating and communicating with patients and/or families in a medical, public health, or community setting.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining contacts with community partners and external organizations.
  • Experience coordinating programmatic operations including creating budgets and tracking spending.
  • Experience planning and executing logistics for live and virtual outreach activities.
  • Experience reporting grant deliverables.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a variety of communications and marketing tools.
  • Experience with maintaining content and visual appeal of websites and social media platforms.
  • Able to deliver engaging, informative, and well-organized oral presentations.
  • General knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn, genetics and personalized medicine research related topics.
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends; to travel for outreach events as needed.
  • Able to maintain a high quality of work including accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
  • Knowledge of Spanish preferred
