Job Summary

Provides clinical and clerical assistance to patients and their families with friendly interaction and communication. Liaisons with insurance companies and other hospital. Assist Dental Attending, Residents and other Specialists in the dental clinic.

Minimum Job Requirements

 

  •  Graduate of an accredited school of Dental Assisting or Expanded Duties Certified
  •  2-4 years Clinical dental experience

  • CPR AED - American Heart Association AED must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • EFDA - Expanded Duties Cert required within 12 months of hire
  • Familiarity with dental practice management experience

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Answers, transfers, and screens calls on multiple phone lines. Retrieves messages via email in the morning.
  •  Assures the clinic office supply levels are par and ensures appropriate staff is notified when levels drop to re-order status.
  •  Collects information from parents to register new patients. Updates and verifies all personal & insurance information in the computer system. Scans information into the patient's chart.
  •  Communicates with parents regarding dental and medical conditions of the patient.
  •  Confirms appointments. Calls failed appointments and advises dental policy.
  •  Develops and maintains scheduling system. Registers and schedules patients for initial exams, recalls, specialty procedures, consults, and sedation.
  •  Ensures patients schedule their next dental appointment before leaving the clinic. Assures specialists are aware of their scheduled days.
  •  Explains pre-operative and post-operative activities to parents and answers medical questions accurately and helpfully.
  •  Follows up with insurance companies to determine eligibility for services. Communicates with parents if problems arise.
  •  Places wrist bands on each patient and logs their arrival into the computer.
  •  Triages dental emergencies and anomalies.
  •  Perform designated expanded duty functions permitted by the Florida Board of Dentistry.
  •  Maintains and sterilizes dental instruments in accordance with hospital and departmental infection control policies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  •  High school education or equivalent preferred.
  •  Dental office billing preferred.
  •  A minimum of 3 years customer service experience preferred.
  •  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  •  Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  •  Completion of a Sedation Course strongly suggested.
  •  Able to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  •  Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers.
  •  Able to work with small children with special health care need.
  •  Communicate with parents to explain procedures and processes.
  •  Ability to follow complex written or verbal instructions and to solve complex problems.
