Job Summary

The Plastic Surgery APRN works collaboratively with supervising physicians and fellow Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients. The APRN practices in alignment with established clinical guidelines and evidence-based standards. The position is primarily clinic-based, with responsibilities that include managing outpatient visits, inpatient rounding and consults, and call. The role also includes first-assist opportunities in the operating room. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting radiologic and laboratory studies, prescribing medications, implementing treatment plans, and documenting all patient care services in the EMR and departmental records.

Job Specific Duties

  • Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physical examinations on pedatric plastic surgery patients. 
  • Performs first assist duties. 
  • Conducts medical rounds, oversees and documents plan in collaboration with the attending physician. Performs comprehensive assessments and provides accurate documentation. Ensures plan of care for the hospitalized patient is of sufficient quality and depth to guide the team in achieving the desired outcome.  
  • Maintains a high level of critical thinking and management skills. Completes clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner of 24 hours.  
  • Accountability for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of quality clinical performance and to promote professional growith.  
  • Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice.  
  • Orders appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies, and consultations. 
  • Acts as a preceptor for students. 
  • Participates in quality improvement program. 
  • Formulates and implements treatment and therapeutic plans for hospitalized patients. 
  • Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency. 
  • Orders and/or prescribes non-controlled substances for inpatient/outpatients. 
  • Works weekends and holidays and takes call.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)  
  • APRN Licensure issued by the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification 
  • Board (AANPCB), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II Background Check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Surgical APP experience preferred.
  • Pediatric Nurse Practice certification preferred.
  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to problem solve, formulate a plan of care, and evaluate the patient's response to care.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
