Anesthesia Technician Coordinator (Full Time, Days)

Job Summary:
Works under the direction of the Director Surgical Services, OR Nurse Manager and the Chief of Anesthesia to provide care to patients undergoing anesthesia for procedures or surgical intervention. Responsible for preparing all schedules and coverage for all patient procedures, providing supplies, assisting during the procedure and for post procedure clean up. Responsible for providing cost effective supply ordering.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Certification from American Society of Anesthesia Technologists (ASATT) and/or Technicians required
- Minimum 2 - 5 years of Anesthesia Technician experience
- CPR: Healthcare Provider – must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Prior experience with infection control procedures and sterile techniques required

Essential Job Duties:
Scheduling:
- Creates staff schedules and monthly on call assignments. Optimizes resources to provide coverage for all patient procedures, minimizes overtime occurrences and creates flex schedule.
- Creates daily assignment worksheets for all Anesthesia Technician assignments.
- Provides coverage for attending physicians by utilizing residents, fellows and assistants.
Safety and Quality Management:
- Performs inspections & compliance audit of medications in the anesthesia carts to ensure no expired medication remains in stock. Completes all audits according to hospital policy & ACHA standards.
- Maintains inventory, ordering, receiving, and storage of all equipment and supplies.
- Cleans, maintains and performs all safety checks of all equipment according to Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
- Works collaboratively with the Pharmacy to ensure that all daily first cases have boxes of medication ready for the anesthetic drawer.
- Communicates and ensures the proper planning and flow for cases with Pharmacy providing the needed medications.
- Works collaboratively with Anesthesiologist and supply chain to evaluate new products and equipment. Creates in-service appointments with anesthesia and vendors as needed.
Patient Care
- Coordinates specifics of care with Anesthesiologist and Operating Room leadership. Assists with patient care activities, on an as needed basis.
- Follows universal precautions (i.e.; donning of Personal Precaution Equipment (PPE), disinfection of equipment) according to safety guidelines outlined by the manufacturers.
- Maintains and records inventory, ordering, receiving, and storing equipment and supplies.
- Maintains anesthesia supply room and OR's for cleanliness and neatness.
- Provides assignments for preceptorship to new employees and assists with new department processes.
- Acts as a subject matter expert and resource to all Anesthesia Technicians.
Employee Engagement
- Provides training and mentorship to current and new staff.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- High School education or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of guidelines on Sterile Techniques and ASATT preferred
- Knowledge of supply chain process preferred
- Knowledge of Vendor Management and experience with equipment trail process preferred
- Able to respond rapidly quickly based on changing circumstances in the patient care environment
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate in a team environment
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Anesthesiologist, OR Nurse Manager and Director of Surgical Services
- Ability to apply knowledge of universal precautions in dealing with patients and equipment
- Ability to respond to emergent situations while remaining calm and reassuring during unforeseen situations
