Job Summary
In association with the attending physician(s), the Genetic and Metabolism APRN provides expert diagnosis, counseling, and treatment for a wide range of genetic disorders in children. The Genetic APRN evaluates infants and children with developmental delays, usual facial features, metabolic disorders, seizures, craniofacial anomalies, and failure to thrive amongst other unknown diagnoses. Participates in pediatric patient's clinical care demonstrating high levels of critical thinking skills as a member of the intradisciplinary team. Responsibilities include performing history and physical examination, ordering and interpreting radiologic and laboratory tests, prescribing medications, documenting patient care services with the EMR and departmental records, and performing procedures with the APRN scope of practice and demonstrated competency. The Genetics APRN will report to the Genetics Chief.
Job Specific Duties
- Supports the Pediatric Genetics multidisciplinary team in blended setting by providing professional health care to patients and their families by assisting in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of a variety of patient groups within the Genetics clinic practice.
- Works collaboratively as part of the Genetics team to meet the healthcare needs of patients with a variety of genetic disorders.
- Performs comprehensive history and physical examination of pediatric genetic patients.
- Synthesizes and evaluates comprehensive data regarding individualized patient/family responses along the continuum of care.
- Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies, and consultations.
- Participates in quality improvement efforts.
- Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency and APRN scope of practice.
- Acquires and maintains expertise regarding the most current developments and trends in the field pediatric genetics, through educational programs, lectures, resident and medical student teaching.
- Orders and/or prescribes medications for inpatient/outpatient pediatric patients.
- Participates in necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning).
- Writes orders, monitors/alters drug therapies, and performs other procedures with education and experience within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s).
- Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice.
- Acts as a preceptor for APP students.
- Assesses educational needs of patients and families and develops and implements a culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate teaching plan.
- Maintain detailed, legible, and confidential medical records in accordance with established protocol.
- Meets on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Master's Degree Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- APRN Licensure issued by the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (AANPCB), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- American Heart Association BLS Maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Level II Background Check

- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred.
