Job Summary
Responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to children and their families through assessment, treatment clinical management, ordering/or interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, teaching, and participating/conducting research. Works collaboratively with physician partners, administration, nursing, and health care teams to develop and implement clinical program needs.
Job Specific Duties
- Acts as a resource for patients, families, staff, or community groups providing education and emotional support.
- Develops, implements, evaluates, monitors, manages, and modifies a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physician examinations.
- Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care across departments and promoting optimal patient outcomes.
- Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies, and consultations.
- Participates in quality improvement programs.
- Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency.
- Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth.
- Orders and/or prescribes non controlled substances for inpatients/outpatients.
- Participates in other necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning, etc.).
- Writes orders, monitors/alters drug therapies, and performs other procedures with education and experience within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s).
- Provides patient information and effectively completes the hand off process at shift change and patient reassignments.
- Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- APRN State of Florida Licensure - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Center (ANCC), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)
- CPR BLS -American Heart Association BLS Maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- ACLS - American Heart Association ACLS Required as per department
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program required for NICU
- PALS - American Heart Association PALS Required as per department
- CPI - Crisis Prevention Institute Required as per department within 7 days of hire date
- BACKGRD - Level II Background Check If required for this position or department
- Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required for PICU, CICU and Neurocritical Care Units.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred for inpatient areas.
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
