Care Assistant - School Health - Partial Year (Full Time, Day shift)

Job Summary

Provides routine patient care, under the direction of the RN. Performs observations, reports patients' conditions and provides teaching to families.

Job Specific Duties

  • Assisting RN and LPN with state mandated screenings (Vison, BMI & oral Health) in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures accuracy of documentation. 
  • Assists the nursing team with initial parent notification of referrals. 
  • Reviews health records; enters screening data and interventions in the student cumulative health record. 
  • Documents screening and student visits in Frontline (Trust repository) and NCH documentation systems. 
  • Ensures clinic is clean and orderly.
  • Ensures clinic equipment and supplies are functional and organized and reports any problems related to equipment or physical environment to the nursing team. 
  • Performs First Aid within scope of practice for students seeking care in the health clinic. 
  • Maintains clinic inventory of supplies and picks up and delivers supplies to school health clinics. 
  • Participates in educational sessions with nursing team. 
  • Identifies students with chronic conditions, initiates contact with parents, and maintains nursing team informed of students requiring RN services. 
  • Ensures compliance with documentation for each student receiving services. 
  • Assists leaders and clinical personnel with clerical duties as needed.
  • Attends open house and school meet and greet events in conjunction with the team. 
  • Assists with connecting students with NCH telehealth appointments/ NCH providers. 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Certified nursing assistant or EMT license within the state of Florida - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II Background Check - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 2 years of school health experience preferred
  • 2 years of pediatric experience preferred
  • Effective English and Spanish communication skills both verbal and written communications
  • Basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in medication calculations for administration
  • Knowledge of CDC and MDCPS Vaccine Schedule/Mandatory Vaccine Requirements
  • Able to work collaboratively with school staff and School health team
  • Able to maintain a high level of quality and safe patient care
  • Ability to uphold the standards established by the Department of Health, Miami Dade County Public Schools, and NCHS
  • Able to provide direction, guidance, supervision and mentoring to a multidisciplinary team consistent with the objectives of the Mission and Vision of the Hospital
