Job Summary

Incorporates the primary components of expert clinical practice and promotes an error free care environment, education, research advocate, and assures the provision of quality care.

*** Schedule for this position will primarily be for Day shifts, however requires flexiblity to work evenings, weekends, etc. as needed ***

Job Specific Duties

  • Coordinates orientation for new staff and preceptor development. Completes probationary evaluations, implements/follow up on Peri-Op 101 modules and participates in Learning Contract development. 
  • Critically evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety with the aim of preventing medical errors. 
  • Engages staff in the development of evidence based practice projects that will improve patient and nursing outcomes. 
  • Identifies practice changes and develops unit specific outcome measures related to the hospital strategic plan and reports on these outcomes on a quarterly basis. 
  • Identifies the educational needs of SPD staff; designs, develops, coordinates, and provides an annual educational plan. 
  • Implements subsequent programs to enhance staff performance and evaluates educational outcomes. 
  • Obtains, synthesizes, analyzes, and utilizes data from information systems and technologies to improve and/or change current processes to achieve desired outcomes using LEAN principles. 
  • Remains current of trends in pediatric practice specific to the particular specialty. Shares and disseminates new information to SPD staff and other disciplines across the institution and community. 
  • Through direct and indirect patient care, functions as the unit's clinical expert/role model for a defined group of patients by analyzing care and identifying clinical issues. 
  • Leads in the coordination of complex care across a continuum of care from admission, transfer, and discharge.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field 
  • CRCST certification- maintain active and in good standing throughout employment 
  • 4-7 years SPD experience in a hospital setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of sterilization methods, infection prevention and regulatory requirements
  • CHL; CIS certifications preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Aware of the current AAMI ST79 standards. Utilization of IFU’s and oneSource. Familiar with Pre-vacuum sterilizers, STERIS mechanical washers and ultrasonic machines. Experience with tray tracking systems.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Possesses proficiency in computers and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Able to analyze and interpret data and utilize the information to make judgments regarding patient care.
  • Ability to positively influence, hold self, and others accountable.
  • Able to work effectively in collaborative environment.
  • Ability to apply principles of evidence-based practice, analytical thinking, and service excellence in practice.
  • Able to encourage and facilitate the ongoing professional development of SPD personnel.
  • Able to provide guidance and support to staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge in SPD.
