Electrician (Full Time, Nights)

Job Summary

Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Florida Electrician license required.
  • Valid Drivers License may be required depending on job duties assigned
  • Completion of job-specific utility systems training located at NCHS within 1 year of hire
  • 4-7 years of Electrician experience

Qualifications

Job Specific Duties:
  • Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment.
  • Operates testing instruments, such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, testing lamp, ­growler, battery and buzzer, oscilloscope, and tracer.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance of local building/safety codes requirements.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials and provides access for future maintenance.
  • Avoids unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent ­with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches displaying location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams/blueprints; ensuring concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ­ceilings, and floorings.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit helped by general mechanic.
  • Connects and splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Works on special projects as needed.
Common Duties:
  • Maintains accountability by ensuring compliance thru timely completion of licensures, certifications, all competencies, health requirements (PPD, N95, Flu, etc.), and education requirements.
  • Maintains accountability and timekeeping expectations as outlined by MCHS Timekeeping and Attendance policy & procedures.  Ensures behavior is compliant with communication standards.
  • Ensures behavior meets and/or exceeds targeted service scores as measured by the Service Index and/or the internal departmental service survey.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • High school education or equivalent preferred
  • Required to be on-call, to work weekends/holidays, and respond to emergencies when needed
  • Able to effectively communicate policies and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by fellow employees
  • Able to and willing to develop advanced skills operating tools and equipment appropriate for the position such as cherry picker
  • Able to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions in a pleasant manner
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with customers and co-workers
  • Comfortable wearing protective equipment
