Job Summary
|
Responsible for the care of ill and injured patients transported by the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Transport Program in field and hospital environment. Responsibilities include patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Paramedic which incorporates assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and intervention skills. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the NCH ambulance and its equipment. Responds to requests for transport, dispatches ground requests & flight following of aircrafts, and communicates with all of LifeFlight's aircraft and ambulance vehicles. Maintains record keeping, data entry, and performs clerical support duties. Coordinates LifeFlight Communications systems including telephone communications with the hospitals, physicians, nurses, and public safety dispatchers.

Job Specific Duties
|
- Assists with interfacility and interfacility transfer of patients and attends to personal needs of patients/families.
- Functions as a professional representative of the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Transport Program.
- Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of NCH ambulance, transport team equipment, and supplies.
- Performs functions of communication's equipment including console & promptly assesses the caller's needs by taking actions to include activation of helicopter, fixed-wing and/or ground ambulance.
- Promotes corporate compliance within the framework of the Code of Business and ethical Conduct.
- Renders life support care to critically ill or injured patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN or Paramedic & assists with procedures, assessment, & vital signs.
- Responsible for taking call and responding within 60 minutes of notification a minimum of one shift per week.
- Accurately and thoroughly completes necessary records such as transport logs, PI logs, etc.
- Complies with transfer laws and consults with appropriate medical staff as necessary for identification of accepting physicians.
- Controls conversations to quickly gather needed information to respond to requests professionally and efficiently.
- Follows guidelines in the dispatching and flight following of transports and documentation of transport logs.
- Maintains leader(s) updated of unusual circumstances. Shows active involvement in process improvements.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements |
- Florida EMT license
- Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC)
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- IAMTCS Certified Flight Communicator course required within 18 months of hire
- Active and valid State of Florida driver’s license with an approved driving record pursuant to our policy and maintained throughout employment.
- Minimum 1 year of driving an emergency vehicle required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Current United States passport is preferred.
- A minimum of 1-year EMT experience preferred
- Training such as paramedic and/or medical corps preferred.
- Ability to communicate verbally in writing.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Able to give and receive critical information accurately.
- Able to multitask situations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of communication equipment and technology.
- Ability to problem solve.

- Able to work up to a 20-hour shift as needed for 24-hour coverage.
- Able to exceed scheduled hours if late transports requested.
