Gift Shop Assistant (Part Time, Rotating shift)

Job Summary

Assists in gift shop operations as directed by the Leader for the benefit of the Heath System, visitors, staff, patients, and families.

Job Specific Duties

  • Welcomes and assists customers (internal and external) in a friendly and polite manner whenever in need of assistance. 
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by responding to customer needs while demonstrating a positive attitude.  
  • Maintains the overall department, including equipment in a clean and sanitized condition. 
  • Assists with filing of all auditable receipts, packing slips, invoices, daily cash register activities, and other documentation of purchases for easy retrieval upon request. 
  • Assists with maintaining inventories on Point-of-Sale software. 
  • Assists with purchasing for gift shop, cycling, and displaying merchandise in an appealing manner or for the necessity of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintains storeroom in an organized way so merchandise can be easily located, inventoried or retrieved. 
  • Ensures shop areas including selling floor, office, and stockroom are maintained in a clean and organized way at all times. 
  • Opens, closes, and balances cash register as assigned by Leader. 
  • Provides excellent customer service. 
  • Handles stressful situations or disagreeable customers in a calm reassuring way. Handles customer complaints or feedback to the satisfaction of both the customer and benefit of the organization. F: As Needed/ T: As needed R:
  • Covers all positions while supporting co-workers breaks.   
  • Under guidance of supervisor, trains volunteers and staff. 
  • Participates and attends departmental meetings/in-services.  

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Cashier and/or retail experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Able to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing manner.
  • Basic knowledge in use of computers and printers, and/or ability to learn appropriate software application(s).
  • Knowledge of Spanish is helpful.
  • Must be able to follow simple instructions to accomplish repetitive tasks.
  • Able to build interpersonal relationships and work in a team-oriented environment; able to collaborate effectively with other team members.
  • Able to interact with the public and coworkers in a positive, friendly, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Able to learn quickly and maintain knowledge of the establishment's products and procedures.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task (verifying and preparing multiple orders).
