Job Summary
The Healing Arts Specialist will support the Arts in Healing Initiative by coordinating the development and implementation of the artist residency and the Arts in Place programs. Programming will help children and providers meet the social and emotional challenges of illness as they discover their own creative resources while working in tandem with a professional artist through the creation of works in various visual and performing arts disciplines. The Specialist will liaise with advisory community partners; refine and put in motion the program's implementation plan; plan semi-annual exhibition/performances to showcase the created works; and recruit and train artists in patient/family interaction under the guidance and supervision of Children & Family Experience. The Specialist may supervise the work of volunteers.
Job Specific Duties
- Identifies, recruits, and cultivates relationships with established and emerging artistic talent in the community from a diverse spectrum of disciplines and backgrounds who will work with patients and providers on creative healing journeys to achieve a healing environment both programmatically as well as visually. Works closely with stakeholders to select artists-in-residence based on program objectives.
- Manages program proposals, implementation, stipend budget, data collection and reports. Verifies activities and dates of services rendered and approves payments to artists. Prepares invoicing and tracks payment.
- Leads planning meetings with leadership, clinical team, and artists to support the Arts in Healing Initiative. Works collaboratively with the Expressive Therapies team including art therapists or music therapists to complement the plan of care outcomes they are hoping to achieve.
- Develops and manages schedule of interactions in coordination with artists-in-residence to produce art pieces with patients/providers within determined timeline.
- Drives awareness of the significance of the arts in a medical setting through development of captivating storytelling alongside Marketing Communications, Foundation, and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for the coordination and execution of public showcases of works produced in the residencies, including production, print material, displays, catalogs, and design.
- Collaborates and manages the relationships with museums, schools and free-lance artists in the community to coordinate the rotating visual art displays such as display cases and other displays throughout the health system.
- Thematically showcases collections of art visually complementing the permanent or seasonal structures in the Arts in Place environment of care. Ensures displays are in alignment to brand standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field, such as Fine Arts, Education, Musuem Studies, Art Therapy, or Music Therapy
- 2-4 years of experience in arts education or arts administration
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills in email correspondence, phone communication and in-person interactions, with children, families, medical staff, colleagues, and external partners.
- Ability to plan arts programming with consultation from clinical staff based on psychosocial and developmental needs of patients.
- Time management and organizational skills, including attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and engage with children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
- Working knowledge or past experience in healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic supervisory skills used to manage and guide volunteers & contractors
