Job Summary

The Horizon Program Nurse Specialist supports the Horizon Nurse Residency Program under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Professional Development. Contributes to the development, implementation, and programmatic support for the clinical onboarding & orientation experience of newly licensed registered nurses. Supports the management of various educational activities and other elements of the Horizon Program. Promotes the Horizon Program within the community and supports the pipeline programs that feed into the Horizon Program. 

Job Specific Duties

  • Supports nurse residents, preceptors, and Clinical Education Specialist (CES) in biweekly meetings to assess nurse resident onboarding experience and progress.  
  • Assists the Horizon Program director, with the re-accreditation process through ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). Supports the collection, maintenance, and coordination of the submission of application materials and ensures residency program standardization.
  • Assists in the coordination and support of all Horizon events and activities.  
  • Monitors and analyzes Horizon Program metrics.  
  • Represents the Horizon Program internally and externally, attends schools and career fairs.
  • Collaborates with marketing to create and distribute Horizon Program advertisements, publications, and other promotional materials.  
  • Serve as educator and/or facilitator in Horizon Program education.  
  • Collaborates with Horizon Program Director to solicit stakeholder feedback and enhance program as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • NPD-BC certification required within 2 years
  • 3-5 years of Pediatric Nursing Experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Nursing professional development certification (NPD-BC) preferred.
  • Preceptor experience preferred.
  • Proficient with computers, EMR, and Microsoft Office.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess collaborative and effective communication skills necessary to partner with teams in the organization.
  • Strong customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work through others and influence stakeholders and staff to achieve a common goal.
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentor staff, and redirect unacceptable behaviors.
  • Actively seeks out self-development and education opportunities.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and flexibly with minimal supervision.
