Job Summary

Creates functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces by assessing space requirements, determining optimal furniture placement, and selecting decorative items, all while adhering to relevant standards, building code, and inspection requirements. Responsible for space planning, designing, and furnishing interiors spaces in a healthcare environment. Formulates practical designs, aesthetically pleasing and conducive to exceptional patient and family experience and care. Supports Project Managers in gathering equipment, resources and information to implement upcoming projects. Key duties and responsibilities include developing furnishing budgets and delivery schedules, organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings and ensuring deadlines for projects are met. Provides support to the team in space planning, development or project renderings, and development of NCHS departmental design standards; to be used for different projects and initiatives. Presents requested reports at Construction team meetings. Provides clerical and administrative support to the project management team and other staff as assigned.

Job Specific Duties

  • Assists with plans, designs, and executes multiple construction & renovation projects to meet program requirements, budget, safety, & time constraints. Prepares project graphics and plans for all assigned projects.
  • Serves as primary contact with furniture vendors, design consultants, and project managers on all interior design assigned projects. 
  • Attends client meetings to understand the design needs and client preferences regarding interior styles, colors and furniture requirements. 
  • Works with clients to determine initial goals and requirements for the space to be designed. 
  • Collaborates with architects, engineers, and builders to further understand how interior space should function, appear, and be furnished. 
  • Prepares renderings, sketches or other visual aids to demonstrate preliminary designs to team members and other stakeholders. 
  • Obtains all required hospital design approvals and submits required proposal documentation to the project managers for appropriate department approvals for purchase order issuance. 
  • Documents project information in an accurate and timely manner; ensures project files and electronic records are current, complete, and accurate. 
  • Ensures compliance with AHCA, ADA, NFPA, OSHA and local building codes. Follows up on issues and concerns, and takes corrective measures as needed. 
  • Determines and evaluates risks that may affect the project and implements risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to avoid project delays/cost overruns.
  • Reviews progress/status of all interiors projects and identifies specific activities to be performed to ensure project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks are completed according to project deadline. 
  • Consults with PM and End-user to select materials, furnishings, and decor. 
  • Uses design applications to prepare renderings and illustrate final plans. Determines timelines and project costs and presents accurate estimates to project managers and end-users. 
  • Leads the development of a NCHS Project Design Guideline Manual that contains all design requirements for a project.
  • Orders or obtains necessary sample materials, adhering to project design guidelines and developes sample boards for projects. Collects proposals from furniture vendors for projects. Oversees the installation of materials, furniture, and other design elements. 
  • Ensures client satisfaction by visiting the project on completion with the client; resolves any complaints or concerns. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design. 
  • Answers inquiries concerning activities and operations for the department leader(s).
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings for the department staff and follows-up. 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Interior Design, Architecture or related field.
  • Prior experience in Interior Design, Architecture, healthcare project management, commercial construction or facilities planning/capital project management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in healthcare or Project Management preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, Desktop Publishing, and project management solutions.
  • Familiar with project management methodologies and reporting tools.
  • Computer-aided design CAD, Revit, Photoshop, SketchUp, and other software proficiency is required.
  • Ability to create photo-realistic renderings of projects for multiple projects and department’s needs (i.e. communication tool, marketing needs, fundraising, etc.).
  • Knowledge of healthcare finishes, healthcare fabrics, healthcare and office furniture design and installation, healthcare design standards, and construction/installation requirements.
  • Ability to apply a sense of style to create aesthetically pleasing interiors. Strong visual design skills including proportion and aesthetics.
  • Ability to leverage evidence based design data and concepts to design new and improved healthcare/ healing spaces.
  • Ability to manage multiple project deliverables at the same time.
  • Ability to prioritize work and evaluate workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • Able to conduct business presentations and discuss ideas in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of building codes and inspection regulations related for healthcare interiors.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor and independent thinking.
