Description

Job Summary

Responsible for LifeFlight educational design, plan, implementation and evaluation processes and academic programs as well as LifeFlight's outreach program. Manages all aspects of the LifeFlight critical care education, collaborates with NCHS Clinical Educators & Specialists to ensure standardization of clinical practice. Responsible to provide clinical staff with initial and ongoing education, clinical development, promote an error free care environment, research advocate, and assures the provision of quality nursing care.

Also responsible for customer relationship building that leads to positioning the Nicklaus Children's Hospital's LifeFlight® program and Nicklaus Children's Hospital as the provider of choice for regional transport referrals. Evaluates the healthcare market and regional transport needs, monitors and trends transfer and transport data, and develops and implements outreach strategies to capture additional volume. Provides leadership and support to all aspects of medical communications related to efforts within NCH's LifeFlight® program and NCH. Practices under the supervision of the Nursing Manager/Director.

Job Specific Duties

  • Consults with staff regarding individual learning needs and delivers competence-based program with a focus on improvement of skills and retention of knowledge. 
  • Mentors new and current employees to improve performance, clinical outcomes and identifies clinical strengths and opportunities. Partners with leaders to foster empowerment and open communication. 
  • Develops, oversees, and coordinates yearly educational plan for LifeFlight and Communication Center. 
  • Assesses learning needs, develops, implements, and coordinates continuing education, competency sessions such as remediation, certification, mentoring, CAMTS, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Coordinates the onboarding of new hires, buddy assignments, standardization of the onboarding, and training of LifeFlight staff. 
  • Audits documentation, monitors skills clinical skills performance and clinical practice of LifeFlight Nurses, Paramedics, and EMTs. 
  • Mentors and engages staff in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes as demonstrated by higher CEI and SEI.

  • Recognizes and communicates changes in clinical practice consistent with organizational standards. 
  • Analyzes data and outcomes in order to make recommendations on process improvements and changes to current practice to achieve desired outcomes using PI processes. 
  • Remains current and at the cutting edge of trends in pediatric/neonatal transport practice. Shares and disseminates information across the institution and the community. 
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures and programs which assure the provision of quality nursing care based upon Evidence Based Practice (EBP). 
  • Monitors and evaluates monthly transfers/transport stat reports to identify trends and takes actions accordingly.
  • Works with program leadership to define and build outreach reports/dashboard to measure/track outreach activity effectiveness and contribution to the organizational strategic plan. 
  • Partners closely with NCH professionals in provider relations, trauma, ECLS, transfer center, critical care, patient navigation, institute leadership, etc. to ensure a unified and collaborative delivery of content and representation with outside hospitals/agencies.
  • Provides education, information, and trainings to appropriate individuals regarding programs and services, neonatal/pediatric transport to/from referral sites as needed. 
  • Identifies progressive ideas through researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracks their accomplishments and stays abreast on how these could impact the NCH's LifeFlight program and NCH organization. 
  • Works closely with program leadership and Marketing and Communications to promote the brand/image awareness of Nicklaus Children's Hospital LifeFlight program in the service region. 
  • Identifies and produces educational materials including to support public relations, and communications with NCH customers that meets the needs for neonatal and pediatric services with possible transport opportunities. Provides education to NCH referral centers and outlying facilities in accordance with their needs. 
  • Defines, develops, and ensures optimal working relationships with the community physicians, members, medical staff members of the health system, and referring physicians.    

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing (BSN) 
  • Registered Nurse RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS American Heart Association (AHA) BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • American Heart Association PALS Instructor Provider - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor Provider - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association ACLS Instructor Provider - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment within 1 year of hire
  • Completion of Florida DOT AMCCC
  • National certification (CFRN, CCRN, CEN, CPEN, CNPT, CPN, CMTE, CTRN) within 18 months of hire.
  • Must maintain a weight limit no greater than 250 lbs. in uniform (flight suit, boots) throughout employment
  • Maintain valid passport throughout employment for travel requirements
  • 2-4 years pediatric flight nursing, critical care and or emergency services nursing experience in 
    a hospital setting
  • Minimum of 2000 hours of Level II or Level III NICU experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare marketing, community outreach, or public relations preferred.
  • Possesses a passion for learning.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior educational duties preferred.

  • Ability to provide education, information, and trainings to appropriated individuals regarding NCH programs and services.
  • Able to collaborate with NCH program leaders to develop strategies that promote the brand, image, and awareness of NCH services.
