Job Summary

Supervises the Registered Nurses, Paramedics, and EMT’s that transport patients by ground ambulance, rotor wing and/or fixed wing flights. Ensure that patients receive excellent clinical nursing care. Responsible for providing leadership, people development, supporting quality improvement efforts, collaborating with the Medical Director, Physicians and colleagues to promote excellent patient outcomes, active participation in the Department of Nursing administrative leadership team. Collaboration with local and state EMS agencies. Actively provides regular team update training. Schedules and maintains the staff’s continuing education (skills day, sedation certification, etc.)

  • Minimum Job Requirements:
    • BSN required. 
    • Licensure to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
    • Minimum of 4000 hours of nursing experience with 2000 hours of Neonatal Level II, III experience required.
    • Transport experience required, preferably in a neonatal/pediatric capacity.
    • National certification in CNPT, CCRN, CFRN, or CTRN.
    • Certified PALS, ACLS, and NRP required.

    Qualifications

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Acts as supplemental operations administrator when needed to supervise shift to shift operations.
    • Coordinates and collaborates with stakeholders such as multidisciplinary teams, internal and external customers to create collaborative work relationships that drive performance and quality outcomes in a timely and effective manner.
    • Coordinates the department's customer service indicators including the preparation, analysis, and submission of required reports. Complete daily staff rounds to provided updates on needed improvements and successes. Updates and communicates outcomes and information to staff during meetings or huddles. Establishes standards, provides training, and enforces compliance of departmental hospital customer service program. Recognizes staff members who are identified by families and helps embed a culture of service excellence with all staff.
    • Directly manages personnel resources from hiring to employment separation while supervising staff through orientation, training and annual performance reviews within established guidelines within scope of responsibility.
    • Identifies LEAN projects and selects tools to review and evaluate current process states
    • In support of MCH’s strategic initiatives leaders must effectively manage the Performance Pillar Metrics on their Monthly Scorecard. Regular rounding is critical to gathering feedback and making effective decisions that will improve leader’s metrics on their Monthly Scorecard.
    • Manage budget(s) effectively and is made aware of any variances of greater than 5% by director. Directly manages personnel resources from hiring to employment separation while supervising staff through orientation, training and annual performance reviews within established guidelines within scope of responsibility. Monitors and impacts cost containment while enhancing revenue streams to meet the fiscal goals according to hospital policies and procedures. Maintains a comprehensive staffing plan/ model that is aligned with budget and key quality indicators.
    • Ensures and adhere to the Code of Business and Legal Conduct, the Ethics and Compliance Program and the no retaliation policies. Complies with all laws regulations and company policies governing the delivery of quality health care services to include but not limited to all Joint Commission standards.
    • Oversees and supervises day to day operations, reacting effectively to unplanned circumstances, demands and challenges of respective areas of responsibility, assuring quality services and patient directed care. Coordinates and collaborates with stakeholders such as multidisciplinary teams, internal and external customers to create collaborative work relationships.
    • Performs administrative duties such as collecting, analyzing and reporting data pertinent to each department. Participates in life wings as a method of process improvement when able.
    • Performs personnel procedures including payroll, time and attendance and progressive disciplinary action, in a timely and accurate manner. Identifies, promotes, facilitates and develops educational programs and trains staff in related skills, values and career development to ensure employee engagement and retention goals are achieved.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    • 2 years of Pediatric Nursing including charge nursing is preferred.
    • Previous management experience preferred.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to problem solves department issues and maintains clinical practices.
    • Certification after two years is highly preferred.
    • Competent in nursing skills required for designated scope of responsibility.
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Completed a neonatal stabilization course.
    • Successful completion of initial or crew member (ACM) education program directed in accordance with the 1988 U.S. Department of Transportation Air Medical Crew Advanced National Standard Curriculum.
