Job Summary
Ensures the smooth operation of the Preop/PACU department and oversees day-to-day clinical operations. Maintains a high level of quality and safe care. Supervises the flow of multiple modalities to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. Assures quality care is provided in a safe, convenient, timely, and efficient manner optimizing customer service for all. Supports and upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated hospital, Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Behaviors, Patient Bill of Rights, Code of Business, and Ethical Conduct. Practices under the supervision of the Preop/PACU Manager.
Job Specific Duties
- Supervises day-to-day operations, supports PREOP/PACU and collaborates with the Surgical Services leadership team. Effectively responds to unplanned demands and/or challenges ensuring quality services and patient directed care.
- Actively participates in the performance review process through chart reviews and validating staff clinical competencies.
- Supports department performance through error free care and clinical quality outcomes. Participates in data collection analysis and shares findings with the leadership team.
- Assists leaders in managing the budget, monitoring, and impacting cost containment while enhancing revenue streams to meet the fiscal goals according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership, Operations Administrators, and nursing staff office to flex employees to align with census fluctuations and meet hospital needs.
- Seeks opportunities to reduce cost and enhance revenue. Maintains a comprehensive staffing plan/model that is aligned with budget and key quality indicators.
- Continuously monitors patient flow from admission, transfer, or discharge by participating in unit rounds & continually reviewing, improving, and refining these processes.
- Coordinates patient flow utilizing resources appropriately and flexing staff to ensure efficiency. Makes daily work assignments for nursing staff.
- Effectively communicates with physicians and staff. Provides updates and handoff at the beginning and end of shift and as needed.
- Oversees shift activities to exceed and assure customer delight, investigates patient complaints/concerns, and assists in resolutions.
- Participates in the selection, promotion, and disciplinary actions of staff. Evaluates nursing staff.
- Supervises training and orientation of new employees. Instructs, facilitates huddles and in-services to educate staff on new policies and procedures.
- Supports departmental goals and the hospital strategic plan. Actively participates in the nursing governance council and unit based committee.
- Coordinates and communicates hospital updates, metrics & Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Patient Perception Survey data.
- Achieves a 95% CEI by conducting chart audits utilizing the EMR to ensure staff adherence to regulatory requirements of DNV, CMS, DOH & other accrediting agencies.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 2-4 years of pediatric RN experience in an acute care healthcare environment
- 1-3 years of Clinical Coordinator or leadership experience in an OR setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- BSN or currently enrolled in a BSN program preferred.
- Surgical Nursing in an acute care facility preferred.
- Ability to provide expertise, resources, and competent care within a clinical setting.
- Career Development: National certification of Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or (CNOR) and/or certification equivalent preferred within 5 years of hire.
- Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and lead a team to achieve business results.
- Ability to problem solve and to adapt standard of clinical procedures to the individual client's need.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
- Ability to provide direction, coaching, mentor staff, and redirect unacceptable behaviors.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely fashion with attention to detail.
- Demonstrate strong time management, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills.
