Job Summary

Responsibilities include daily checks of the facility for structural damages and follow up with work orders to take care of deficiencies found. Responds to calls from hospital departments regarding problems that affect the hospital structure and appearance including damaged walls and floors. Performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the Hospital complex to assist tradesmen and other workmen in completing their tasks. May assist others in all emergency code situations as detailed in the Emergency Plans Manual. Repairs walls and floors as needed including some concrete and asphalt repairs in all areas of the facilities including offsite facilities.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a painter.
  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on job duties assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes and returns work tickets upon completion of assigned or self-initiated tasks. Responds to calls from hospital departments regarding problems affecting the hospital structure and appearance including damaged walls and floors.
  • Repair, patch and paint walls, doors and door frames and install or replace cove base as needed. Paint machinery, piping and floors in mechanical rooms and in the exterior of the building
  • Performs light carpentry work such as building and installing shelves, chair rails; hang picture frames and bulletin boards and other miscellaneous items.
  • Build drywall walls with studs to create partitions or enclosed rooms.
  • Reports any unusual event that may adversely affect the hospital environment or electrical equipment to the supervisor or supervisor on call.
  • Assist others in all emergency code situations as detailed in the Emergency Plans Manual including help prepare the facilities for emergency situations such as a hurricane with moving material, installing shutters and filling sandbags.
  • Help move furniture when necessary to offices or departments.
  • Maintain an inventory of the paints used in the facilities and order material as needed on time to take care of the paint and wall repair requests.
  • Responsible to returning all work areas to a clean, neat, orderly and safe condition.
  • Inspects, installs and repairs handrails, wall protectors, wall bumpers and wall coverings as well as floor materials such as VCT, carpet, ceramic or porcelain tile and vinyl.
  • Works on assigned special projects by the supervisor.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • High school education or equivalent preferred
  • Hospital Painter experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of paint types and the use of various paint, floor and wall patching.
  • Knowledge of repairing tools as well as hand and bench power tools such as electric drills and saws.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to solve complex problems and file basic reports.
  • Reacts calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Relates cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers.
