Job Summary

Prepares instruments, hooks-up, and monitors polygraphically recorded sleep studies. Responds to patient's needs and corrects equipment malfunctions.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience doing sleep studies.
  • CPR: Healthcare Provider - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Qualifications

Job Specific Duties:
  • Assists in maintaining filing and storage systems for polygraphic recordings.
  • Attends educational and departmental meetings and reviews material presented.
  • Ensures safety and well-being of patients; summons appropriate personnel immediately if an emergency situation develops or if patient is in apparent distress; manages situation until it is resolved.
  • Explains procedures to patients/families; maintains a comfortable and controlled environment in the laboratory.
  • Performs MSLT, scores, and prints to the satisfaction of the Medical Director; prepares appropriate sleep study reports for physician interpretation within the standard timeframe of 3 days.
  • Performs Polysomnograms multi-channel, CPAP according to the minimal technical guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning procedures on laboratory equipment; ensures inventory of supplies are adequate.
  • Prepares sleep laboratory and calibrates instruments; diagnoses and corrects minor equipment malfunctions; refers major technical malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Selects appropriate equipment required for specific testing protocol and applies correctly to patients.
  • Summarizes neurological status and clinical history from the chart, patient or other knowledgeable persons.
  • Adequately hooks up the patient to sensor equipment.
  • Performs handoff consistently utilizing the tech sheet to communicate critical elements regarding the patient.
  • Documents within the scope of practice all electronic medical record (EMR) meaningful use required fields in an effort to optimize utilization.
  • Participates in Lean initiative to improve processes for opportunities to deliver higher quality, cost effective care, with greater customer service, & which impact can be measured by way of metrics.
  • Utilizes Lean methodology to improve the family experience in the Brain Institute. Actively involved in continuously improving the patient experience and in the service recovery process.
Common Duties:
  • Maintains accountability by ensuring compliance thru timely completion of licensures, certifications, all competencies, health requirements (PPD, N95, Flu, etc.), and education requirements.
  • Maintains accountability and timekeeping expectations as outlined by MCHS Timekeeping and Attendance policy & procedures.  Ensures behavior is compliant with communication standards.
  • Ensures behavior meets and/or exceeds targeted service scores as measured by the Service Index and/or the internal departmental Service survey.

  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions
  • Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client’s need
  • Ability to work well with others and the willingness to learn new procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
