Registered Dietitian Outpatient (Part Time)

Job Summary

Serves as a nutrition resource for the healthcare team and community. Provides outpatient medical nutrition therapy via nutritional assessments, nutrition diagnosing, interventions, and appropriate monitoring and follow up.

Job Specific Duties

  • Provides nutritional education to patients and families within the specific scope of practice, while taking into consideration patients preferred learning styles, readiness for change and culture.
  • Coordinates patient nutrition care plans. Participates in interdisciplinary meetings in order to provide coordinated and high quality care. 
  • Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process to perform nutritional assessments, develop intervention plans and methods for monitoring outcomes via the International Dietetics & Nutrition Terminology. 
  • Serves as the nutrition expert for the Ambulatory Care Center community by executing requests for nutrition related programs (health fairs, presentations, etc.). 
  • Contacts all scheduled patients 24-72 hours prior to appointment to confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointment. Monitors schedule with initial and follow ups to maximize daily workflow. 
  • Obtains anthropometrics (height, weight and waist circumference) needed for nutrition assessment and documents in Electronic Health Record. 
  • Faxes all notes from referrals outside MCHS. Forwards notes for review from internal physician referrals. 
  • Documents assessments within the Electronic Health Record utilizing department specific power forms. Completes documentation and drops appropriate charges within 24 hours of service provided.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nutrition and/or Dietetics  
  • RD - Registered Dietician within 9 months of hire date
  • LDN - Licensed Dietitian/Nutrition L.D/N. (Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist) or approved application from the Department of Professional Regulation of Florida within 6 months of hire date
  • American Heart Association AED maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (C.S.P) preferred
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers
  • Able to communicate consistently and effectively (understand, read, write, and speak) in English
  • Knowledge of Spanish helpful
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Able to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions
  • Able to problem solve, formulate a nutrition plan, and evaluate the patient’s response to the implementation plan
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of how to perform algebra computations and conversions in order to make nutritional recommendations
  • Able to interpret, evaluate, and utilize research results
  • Able to stay current with most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice
