Sr Financial Analyst

Job Summary

Performs accounting functions, conducts financial, statistical and analytical reviews, and prepares and assists in the preparation of financial reports, statements, and presentations. Participates in cross functional teams to assist with financial requirements and to enable adherence to generally acceptable accounting principles. Specialized subject matter expertise in complex health care accounting functions and acts as lead for team and directs workflow.

Job Specific Duties

  • Analyzes data and statistics to identify trends and account variances. Provides explanation for variances. 
  • Prepares accurate financial and statistical reports for internal and external use by government agencies, financial institutions, auditors and third-party agencies. 
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements using generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Performs complex general ledger account reconciliation on a routine basis; identifies and clears all reconciling items in a timely manner. 
  • Completes complex ad hoc reporting assignments. 
  • Participates as the financial team member in strategic projects of the Hospital and System. 
  • Leads strategic projects of the financial division.
  • Assists in coordinating the activities and reviewing the work of accounting staff members.
  • Responsible for maintaining expert knowledge in one or more specific areas of healthcare financial accounting. 
  • Increases productivity and efficiency within the Finance Division by developing automated procedures,eliminating duplication of effort and coordinating information requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related business degree (OR) 10 years of general ledger and/or healthcare experience
  • 7 years of general ledger and/or healthcare experience
  • 5 years of experience in an accounting or auditing position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates expert level competency in financial and statistical reporting.
  • Demonstrates expert level competency in design and preparation of spreadsheets and other financial reports.
  • Outstanding problem solving skills.
  • Skill in the use of complex mathematical and statistical techniques to assess financial and statistical scenarios.
  • Knowledge of healthcare finance.
  • Ability to utilize discretion and independent judgment to support the financial goals of the organization.
  • Communicates information in a clear, concise and easy to understand manner for use by internal and external groups.
