Job Summary
Assist Pediatric Neurosurgery Physician(s) and staff with daily coordination of patient care and access. Primarily responsible for supporting clinical practice staff with surgical scheduling.
Minimum Job Requirements
- 2-4 years of physician/medical office experience
- 2-4 years of surgical scheduling experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook
Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Scans posting sheet to Same Day Surgery to schedule surgery. Prints surgical consents for all scheduled surgeries. Delivers all completed consents to Same Day Surgery.
- Compiles Neuro-Radiology Patient list each Monday/Thursday.
- Schedules and posts surgeries in physicians Outlook calendar.
- Distributes OR calendar daily as changes are made.
- Processes all surgical cases for physician practice, including insurance verification. Searches for ICD/CPT code when not provided. Obtains necessary authorization for all surgical procedures.
- Arranges and ensures all additional equipment and monitoring needs requested by physician are met.
- Coordinates surgeries with outside physicians. Coordinates prior hospital admissions if associated with surgical procedure as needed.
- Arranges and coordinates Gamma Knife surgical procedures in outside facilities.
- Posts all surgeries in the Pre-Operative Surgical Scheduling Form for all departmental physicians.
- Schedules the needed CT for Visualase cases on the morning of surgery.
- Schedules all surgical patients for pre-operative appointment, and scans surgical documentation into EMR.
- Schedules pre-op and post-op testing appointments when needed.
- Advises appropriate staff when patient starts in Radiology, needs to be admitted the day before surgery, needs pre-op on morning of surgery, etc.
- Arranges and coordinates lumbar procedure and requests authorization.
- Provides charts to ARNP nurse for orders.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- High school education or equivalent preferred.
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
